SOLARIS project

Nu-Jazz from Schostakovich’s motherland ;)

The original version of famous 1930 “Body and Soul” standard, that features a sophisticated polyphonic “basso ostinato” middle section along with modern beats!

Beautiful Chorus 1, dramatic Chorus 2; short reflection, crescendo and first climax in Bridge, then polyphonic journey through subconsciousness and violin solo as the general climax …post-catharsis major Reprise and dissolve-in-the-light Coda.

You have NEVER heard a song like that

Persian restaurant? [Saturday

I would love to try Persian food (specifically Persian), and who better to ask than this ever-resourceful community? I think that there is a restaurant on Sherbrooke, in the eastern bit of NDG, but I'm hoping for a personal recommendation.

I would like an intimate atmosphere, and quality ingredients. Oh, and it should be accessible by public transit and a general price range would be useful.

Thanks

ETA: I basically want something authentic, but the kicker is that I won't really know whether it is or not, unless someone else can vouch for it. Thanks again!

The Dark Knight was fantastic. Movie theatres always make me feel nauseous, still. I hate that.

Heath Ledger was amazing; Christian Bale was passable; and Batman had a weird voice.

The movie made me really sad about Heath Ledger though. I was particularly frustrated when we were walking out of the theatre and a 15-year-old girl says to her friend, "I wish he hadn't have died - he was like, sooo hot." Sigh.

My French is improving but my Japanese is atrophying. When I call my mom she has to remind me of words like sengetsu. This will not do. If you'd like to hang out in Japanese with me, comment here. It'll be fun.

Seth Thomas Pendulum Clock repair [Saturday

This is very specific, and google hasn't yielded any answer even close to what I'm looking for!

Basically, my parents' antique Seth Thomas clock died last week, and they would like to find a place where they could go to to either just fix it, or replace the entire clock movement by another Set Thomas movement.

I've been to some "horloger" but many of them don't know a thing about these clocks and will just stick a normal pendulum movement in there (which often sings, wtf!) which has a much shorter life-span. (Basically, a place that knows stuff like this and can order the parts.)

We're willing to drive pretty much anywhere!

I would like to purchase a bike. But I would like a bike that is old-ish and CHEAP, so that I would not be forlorn over its loss if it is stolen. It is really to just get back and forth to school. Does anyone know a place I could get a used/new cheap old-ish bike in the downtown or plateau area for the fall and spring? Or if there is no place, how do I go about getting an old bike like this? Thanks so much!

help to identify a song? [Saturday

[everyytime]
Hello!

As we know, Carifiesta was two weeks ago. On their homepage, there is this song that plays in the background. It's driving me nuts! If you would help me identify it, I'd really appreciate it. I've googled what I can, I've youtubed it... I can't get enough lyrics in a row to. I have called a few friends that may know but they don't. There's one person I know who could tell me what it is, he's in St. Vincent at the moment. The only other person is my ex, and that is totally not worth a call for...

Anyhoo, story there for nothing: http://www.carifiestamontreal.com/ it plays there. Please help!

Practice Space Suggestions HELP! [Saturday

[fiorucci01]
I'm in a bit of a predicament regarding practice space. I'm a singer but I don't study my singing through an institution but rather with a private teacher. Therefor, I have to find my own practice space. The practice space I've been using is closed on weekends for the summer and I've got a concert coming up so I need to be practicing every day. I'm super limited financially and really can't afford to rent out studio space. Also, I've knocked on the doors of the churches and synagogues in my area and they've all said no, especially on weekends.
So, I'm wondering if anyone can suggest anything. Has anyone ever walked into a public space the day of (i.e. church, community center) and just asked to use some space right then and there? Or, can anyone suggest anywhere in the NDG, CDN, Westmount area or downtown that would be forthcoming with sharing their space, especially on the weekend? I do take some classes at concordiabutam unaware ifthe music school at Loyola is open to non music students and is open during the summer on weekends.

Do you guys know if they pre-decide the country they plan to go to each cycle on ANTM?
Like, do they pick the country before each season starts? Or after all the contestants are chosen?

The reason I'm asking is this: I remember that in cycle 7, Jaslene tried out and didn't make it. That's the season they went to Spain. If she HAD made it onto the show, would they still have gone to Spain? They had to do that commercial entirely in Spanish, and it would have been a little unfair since that's her first language.

Faceless = tasteless [Friday

[loveasaverb]
I was walking down St Laurent earlier today, and noticed a sign for Fear & Loathing Mtl (some party thrown at Fouf's every summer).

The words said something like "So awesome it will blow your face off."

And the image on the poster? Someone who actually had their face blown off. Like, a photo of a solider (I think) in a hospital, with the lower half of his face looking like ground beef dripping off of his jawline.

Is it just me or is that utterly tasteless, insensitive, and inappropriate? I like to think I have nerves of steel so while I could stomach the image, I really don't think it is appropriate to put on a poster that will be seen by, well, everyone.

I'm all for freedom of expression and twisted humour, but this is just not sitting well with me. Thoughts?

I've lost my campus laundry card. The only place I know to get it replaced is at the student community centre and their machine is broken. I am very much in need of suggestions or help.

I've already been to 90 University - they only have a card charging machine, not the machine that issues new cards.

Elite Booker Talks (Briefly) About Anya [Friday

Jose Covarrubias, a booker from Elite NY, talks (albeit briefly) about Cycle 10's Anya.

From New York Magazine's The Cut

______________________________

Anya Rozova, who went by Anya Kop on the last season of America's Next Top Model, signed with Elite Model Management on Friday. She may have come in second on the show, behind Whitney Thompson, but she's scored a spot on the agency's development board. Booker Jose Covarrubias says the agency asked for her after the show ended. And she came to them with brown hair (her natural shade — she dyed it back from her ANTM blond, which she found too hard to maintain).

Covarrubias told us Rozova's already done "some editorials" but was unable to give specifics. "She's getting great response," he added. Does this mean we might see her at Fashion Week? "Right now she's building her book. We're treating her as any other model. For Fashion Week we have no plans other than — she's based in New York, she's going to go out and see everyone."

Each season Elite plucks non-winners from the ANTM cast. Rozova's former housemate and competitor, Katarzyna Dolinska, was signed "the second she lost." "Last season was a great batch," Covarrubias added. "Whitney's kicking butt, Anya's kicking butt, Katarzyna's kicking butt. We're doing really well with the three girls we ended up with." Wow, ANTM girls actually modeling. Who would've thunk?

IMO Jaslene is the Energizer Bunny of modeling: She keeps going and going and going... More pics of my favorite ANTM winner: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c114/amazonophile/95825260.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c114/amazonophile/95825258.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c114/amazonophile/95825259.jpg I like how the dress makes the backside of her very beautiful figure look and how it reveals her long legs. I also like how Jaslene`s mouth looks.

I'm in desperate need for a cat sitter, who can take care of my dearest Enoki (female, 2.5yrs old, neutered, 12pounds, lazy, stupid, fat, cute, etc) from july 30th to the end of August (around 27-28) while I'm away for work.

If any of you is interested in having a cat for company short-term or knows anyone who's interested, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!! You will have my eternal gratitude (and a nice little present from TO, which could be better than it sounds) and Enoki and I will love you forever.

Please please please.

email at enokithecat (at) gmail dot com if you're interested, thanks!
